"To Lie, Unmoving" by Adrienne Eberhardt

Limited Edition Giclee Print, no. 1/50
36.5" x 37.125", Framed

Adrienne Eberhardt:
This photograph is from a series of self-portraits called "Closer Still". The series represents two important firsts: using myself as a subject and working in a digital medium. I painted exposed photographic paper and allowed the water and paint to dry in puddles, letting time and randomness play a role in the formulation of the texture and final image. I wanted to capture shifting elements of mood and tension where the figure moves in and out of spaces, revealing herself with clarity at times, and at other times, seeking refuge amongst the ambiguous elements that are characteristic of my work.

Rather than consider photography as a means of capturing a single moment in time, I work to excavate and assemble layers of experiences into an image that represents cumulative thought. Through this process, I investigate how people and emotions change over time and invite the viewer to explore his or her own possibilities of seeing.

"Found 2-29-04 $22.00" by Clint Imboden

"Found 2-25-04 $22.00" by Clint Imboden

Black and White Silver Gelatin Print
30"x24"x1", Framed, hand-made steel frame

Clint Imboden:
I come to making art with the perspective of a therapist. Just as a good therapist can act as a catalyst for change in a client, good art should elicit a strong reaction in the audience, provoking them to explore the reasons why they've been affected.

I usually find my materials at local flea markets. I start with the artifacts of daily living, things that most people discard or overlook: battered globes, worn shoes, dilapidated tools. I'm drawn to old materials because they foster purposeful imperfection in my art, an attribute that's connected to their previous lives. I use them for their connotative, associative or narrative possibilities. My installation work is tactile and handmade; as an artist, I focus on process and on topical, issue-based content.

Viewing my artwork is not meant to be a passive experience; it involves reading, deciphering, taking the initiative to engage physically and psychically with text and objects. I use materials that challenge my audience to consider multiple references in order to understand the full meaning of a piece. I want people to be caught up in the experience of my work, just as I am, in making it. My goal is to have them come away from an encounter with the work knowing something new about themselves.

"Abbott's Lagoon Beach" by Heidi McDowell

Oil on canvas
20"x28"

Heidi McDowell:
I paint expansive landscapes which unapologetically celebrate the transformations brought about by time and the elements. My paintings depict a heightened sense of realism using an economy of means. Rough painterly marks suggesting layer upon layer of texture combine with precisely rendered sunlight to define both architectural form and emotional tone. It is this juxtaposition of the specific and the general which leaves space for the viewer's own experience and memory to flesh out the painting's narrative.

Subject matter is derived from travels along the California coast and abroad and is informed by a background in architecture. Using digital photographs and video stills as reference I distill my memory of visiting a particular location into a physical re-creation of that site, the process of painting akin the natural process of weathering.

In recent work I have begun to incorporate more evidence of the painting's origin as a digital image. Lens flare and digital "artifacts", the aberrations left behind in the making or processing of a visible image, are often regarded as mistakes to be discarded or overlooked. When incorporated into a painting, they further clarify and enhance the experience of specific light conditions, most often intense sunlight, and root the viewer more thoroughly within the space of the painting.

"City Sky #1" by Katja Leibenath

Oil on canvas
10"x12"

Katja Leibenath:
My subject is what I am surrounded by- heavy sky against the silhouettes of the city.

San Francisco can be easily lost under a haze of habit and drowned out by floods of spectacular sights. My paintings look for the noteworthy in the everyday, surprise and beauty in the seemingly mundane- an abundance of which is undeniably found here.

Jonah Burlingame

Oil on wood panel
10"x12"

Jonah Burlingame, a San Francisco native raised in Northeast Ohio, represents a third generation in a family of artists. His clean, abstract works have gained much attention in San Francisco, including commissions for many prominent Bay Area professionals. Since 1996 Jonah has been using his signature technique of painting with a squeegee and suspending each layer of paint in varnish to create paintings that harmonize within a high design environment. His work combines organic color textures with formal structural elements, which beg the viewer to imagine a world beyond the window his paintings provide.

Jonah Burlingame was born in the spring of 1968 in San Francisco. He grew up in Northeast Ohio where he attended Kent State University studying art history and graphic design. Having garnered awards and a strong following in the Midwest, he returned nearly thirty-five years later to pursue a career as an artist in the city he again calls his home. Jonah now resides in Glen Park with his wife and daughter where he continues to exhibit and gain prominence in the San Francisco art community.

"Swarm" by Craig Harris

Bees wax, paint, archival pigment print, recycled acrylic
21.5"x21.5"

The ability for living organisms to adapt and physically change, and conversely the inevitable failure of the systems that allow them (us) to function is the central thread that connects all of my work.

Inspiration from shapes of the inner ear, bones, shells, fauna, invertebrates, cartilage, organs, lungs, kidneys, feminine shapes of breasts, hips, nape of the neck, echoing ancient fertility sculptures and symbols. Certain lines and forms that can be found again and again in the tiniest of organisms, plants, and our own bodies - are always finding their way into the things that I make.

Done (and the preciousness that is invoked from doneness) is not that interesting to me. Things evolving, changing, and growing is the medium for my work. Much of the work that I do, and will do, occurs in places where other people will never see it. I am thus bound to the act of recording and photographing for the purpose of sharing and communicating my work, which I feel is very important for the health of the process of creating. There are more practical things I could have done with my life, but art is the most direct path for me. It is science, psychology, music, magic, misery, elation, frustration and the most satisfying thing in the world.

Quan Pham, a recent San Francisco transplant from Washington DC, has actively spent the last 15 years of experimenting in fine arts and photography while working professionally in technology and design. His move to San Francisco was a creative reset to pursue a career as a photographer and artist.

Often intrigued by the smaller often-missed details, Quan hopes to provide a clean presentation that begs the viewer to stand still with fleeting moments and relax. Working with a variety of themes, his work combines the essence of inorganic color with clean structure to guide the viewer through a short little walk into that moment in time.
